For sale is very lovely piece of art glass made by Tiffany Studios, New York. The item is known as a "Squat Floriform” or flower form vase. It is done in Tiffany's highly sought after gold Favrile iridescent style of art glass. This vase is a nice cabinet size as it stands 3 3/4" tall and the top opening has a diameter of 3 7/8" outside measurements. The foot has a diameter of 2 13/16".
The vase depicts a very pleasing flower form shape. The piece starts with a round foot with a short stem that rises upwards only a short distance. The stem attaches to the lower body of the vessel that flares out forming a wide bud. It then rolls back in and out forming a roll and it then rolls back in and flares out ever so gently forming an irregular ruffled top lip that resembles a flower. When looking straight into the vase it looks like a flower. Also when looking inside this vase has some of the most brilliant gold iridescent I have seen on a L.C.T. Tiffany Favrile vessel in quite some time. The brilliant fuchsia tones make the vase look as if it is on fire!! The vase has a domed foot like many of its taller versions of this form. The iridescence in the foot is also outstanding. The blues, purples and fuchsia are a real crowd pleaser. The detailed ribbing in the foot give an added appeal. The underside bottom jumps at you with the brilliance of the gold iridescence. The glass looks metallic yet it is ever so fragile art glass.
This vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, chips or dings. There are some tooling marks in the ribbing of the raised foot and a few pin head wear in the top iridescence. These are very hard to see as the brilliance of the iridescence makes it so. Truly a very good example of this form and color. The vase is properly signed with the counter clockwise etched script signature mark that reads "L.C.Tiffany-Favrile" along with number "9312 B" to the right of this. The suffix letter "B" helps me date this piece to have been made circa 1907.
This is a quality piece of art glass made by Tiffany Studios, New York. The gold Favrile, Aurene iridescence and form was executed by a master and is just outstanding!! The iridescence rivals Steuben's Gold Aurene!! I'm quite sure the buyer will be delighted with their purchase.
